Gutter Repairs Preston: Leaks, Sagging and Overflowing Gutters
Signs your gutters need repairing
- Overflowing in heavy rain, often from a blockage, a sagging run or a gutter set at the wrong fall.
- Dripping or leaking joints between sections or at corners.
- Sagging or pulling away from the fascia, usually from failed brackets.
- Damp patches or staining on the wall below a gutter or downpipe.
- Plants or moss growing in the gutter.
- Downpipes that are blocked, cracked or have come loose from the wall.
The gutter repairs we carry out
Blockages cleared
Leaves, moss and debris are cleared from gutters, outlets and downpipes so water can run freely. If blockages are your only problem, see our gutter cleaning page.
Leaking joints and sections
Leaking joints are resealed, and cracked or damaged lengths of gutter are replaced.
Sagging runs
Failed or missing brackets are replaced and the gutter is reset to the right fall, so water runs to the outlet instead of sitting in the gutter or spilling over.
Downpipes
Loose downpipes are refixed, and cracked or broken sections are replaced.
Why gutter problems shouldn't wait
Water that should be carried away by the gutters ends up running down your walls or soaking the ground next to the house. Historic England explains that inspecting, maintaining and repairing rainwater systems protects a building from deterioration caused by water getting in. A small repair now is usually cheaper than dealing with damp later.
Overflowing gutters can also look like a roof leak from inside. If you've got damp and aren't sure where it's coming from, see our roof leak repairs.
Repair or replace?
Where most of the guttering is sound, repairing the faulty sections is the sensible option. If it is cracked and leaking along its length, or brackets are failing all the way round, new guttering is often the better long-term answer. We'll tell you honestly which we think you need. See our new guttering page.
