    Gutter Cleaning and Repairs Penwortham

Penwortham sits on the south bank of the River Ribble, just across from Preston, a short drive from our base. North W Roofing provides gutter cleaning and repairs Penwortham homeowners, landlords and businesses can rely on: we clear blocked gutters, fix leaking joints and sagging runs, and replace guttering that's past repairing. For all our gutter work, see our gutter cleaning service overview.

    Gutters on Penwortham's homes

Penwortham has grown in stages, and its homes have different gutters and different problems.

    Lower Penwortham

Lower Penwortham has Victorian terraced housing, including along Leyland Road. On terraces, gutters often run continuously across several houses, so a blockage or a leaking joint next door can overflow onto your wall. Older properties may still have original or very old guttering, where joints and brackets have worked loose over the years.

    Higher Penwortham

Higher Penwortham has a lot of semi-detached housing from the 1920s onwards. On gutters of any age, the most common problems are leaking joints, failed brackets and gutters that have lost their fall towards the outlet, so water sits in the gutter instead of running away.

    Howick Cross, Middleforth and Kingsfold

Wherever you are in Penwortham, including Howick Cross, Middleforth and the Kingsfold estate, the same issues come up whatever the age of the house: leaves, moss and silt blocking the gutters, and water spilling over the edge in heavy rain.

    Newer homes

Penwortham has seen new housing in recent years, around areas such as Broad Oak Farm, Bee Lane and Kingsfold Drive. Even new gutters need clearing, and leaks at joints and outlets can appear within a few years.

    Gutter cleaning in Penwortham

Our gutter cleaning clears the gutters, outlets and downpipes and checks the guttering while we're up there:

    1. Clear the gutters of leaves, moss and debris along their full length.
    2. Clear the outlets where the gutters drain into the downpipes.
    3. Check the downpipes are running freely, and clear blockages we can reach.
    4. Inspect the guttering for leaks, cracks, loose brackets and sagging.
    5. Tell you what we found, with a quote before any repair.

Cleaning and repairs in one visit

Most gutter problems in Penwortham are a mix of the two: a gutter that's full of leaves has often sagged under the weight, or a blocked outlet has been hiding a leaking joint. Because we're roofers, not just cleaners, we can clear the gutters and fix what we find in the same visit, once you've agreed the quote. That saves you paying for access twice.

Why blocked or leaking gutters matter

When gutters fail, the water they should carry away runs down the face of the wall or soaks the fascia boards behind them. That can lead to damp inside, often at the top of walls and around windows, and to rotten fascias. On terraces, it can also affect the house next door. Dealing with gutters early is far cheaper than dealing with the damp they cause. See our damp prevention roofing page.

    When to have gutters checked

Homes near mature trees fill their gutters fastest, especially in autumn. Once the leaves have fallen, before the winter rain, is a sensible time to have them cleared and checked. If your roof is mossy, moss washing off the roof will keep blocking the gutters, so it's worth dealing with that too. See our moss removal and roof cleaning page. After storms or high winds, it's also worth looking at your gutters from the ground for anything that has been pulled loose or knocked out of line, before the next heavy rain finds it.

    Gutters and fascias together

Gutters are fixed to the fascia boards along the roof edge. If the fascias behind a leaking or sagging gutter have rotted, new brackets have nothing sound to fix into. We check the fascias when we repair or replace gutters, and if they need replacing too, it usually makes sense to do both at once. See our fascias and soffits page.

    Landlords in Penwortham

Blocked and leaking gutters are a common cause of damp complaints from tenants. We clear and repair gutters on rental properties as part of looking after the outside of the building. See our landlord property maintenance page.

    Why not do it yourself?

Gutter work means working at height, often from a ladder, and the back of a house is often harder to reach than the front. If you're not comfortable working at height, leave it to someone who does it every day. Never climb onto a roof or a conservatory to reach a gutter.
